Self Help for Improving Visual Spatial Skills in Those with NVLD, by DK

By May 17, 2022 NVLD Bloggers

My story is so long and I’ve explained it too many times to have the energy to retell it.

Believe it or not, I am a successful visual artist. Searching to advance in my painting practice, I’ve found a couple of fun and challenging activities that work well. It is not a cure, but daily practice of these activities does lead to gains. I have been helped a lot by playing Quizbit, alone. This helps with mental rotation, visual-spatial reasoning, and fine motor skills.

The other activity that helps a lot is putting jig-saw puzzles together (see the puzzle warehouse online).

Don’t give up! There are ways to improve NVLD related deficits.

The next things I will work on are Theory of Mind, a deficiency that overlaps with Autism Spectrum Disorders, and unexpected naiveté.  If you’re like me, you rush into friendships, without carefully assessing the person or social situation. It is a lifelong struggle that I am determined to improve my social skills and ability to protect myself from people who take advantage of my naivete.

Try out Quizbit and jigsaw puzzles. Hope it helps you, too!

I am a 54 year old visual artist with a host of lifelong challenges with undiagnosed NVLD. Of course, my verbal and writing skills are advanced. Other stuff? Not so much.
