Navigating NVLD Through College by, Ellie

Being 19 years old, living in a college two hours away from my home, and having NVLD is both good and bad. I was diagnosed with NVLD at 12 years old and ever since then, I’ve always been seen as the “weird kid” and I took that to heart and made it into who I am.

College was always a scary idea for me, as I even hated the topic when I was a junior in high school searching for colleges. My parents have always been my number one supporters, and have helped me through my first year at college. Being a freshman in college, it’s definitely not like high school. The people here are nice but making friends is now becoming a bit difficult, which not everyone has to be your friend but if you find people similar to you, everything will work out great. I promise that there will be ups and downs, but not give up and work to overcome these challenges. Growing up sucks, but if you keep a positive mindset, you’ll have a great time. You’re not alone.
