College: Marymount University

Biography: Hi! I’m Celia, a nursing student and college athlete who was diagnosed with NVLD in third grade. I’ve always loved reading, but math and social situations were tough, and I often felt left out. It took time to understand how my brain works and find confidence in who I am. Now I’m thriving in college, balancing clinicals, swim practice, and friendships. NVLD has definitely shaped my journey, but it’s also made me more empathetic and driven. I’m excited to be an ambassador and help others know they’re not alone

  • What motivated you to become a Social Ambassador for the NVLD Project?
    •   I was motivated to become a Social Ambassador for the NVLD Project because I wanted to raise awareness about a condition that is often misunderstood or overlooked. Living with NVLD has shaped my perspective, and I understand the unique challenges it presents, from navigating social cues to handling spatial tasks. By sharing my story and advocating for others, I hope to foster understanding and create a community where individuals with NVLD feel seen, supported, and empowered. It’s incredibly fulfilling to contribute to breaking down stigma and helping others embrace their unique strength.

  • What advice would you give to others living with NVLD?
    • My advice is to focus on your strengths and not let NVLD define you. Everyone has unique abilities, and learning how to leverage yours can make all the difference. Be patient with yourself as you navigate challenges, and don’t hesitate to seek support from friends, family, or professionals. Find strategies that work for you, whether it’s breaking tasks into smaller steps, using visual aids, or practicing social skills. Remember, it’s okay to ask for help, and it’s important to advocate for what you need. Most importantly, surround yourself with people who celebrate your uniqueness and encourage your growth.
